Hi, my name is James Matthews. As my about section says I’m a secondary school teacher who specialises in providing career advice to students.
I’m starting this blog as a way of helping as many people possible including my current students, many of whom will be reading this. I want to share and pass on my knowledge and experience as many people out there struggle with all things career related. Sometimes what you need is a fresh perspective on your prospects or perhaps an expert opinion to steer you in the right direction and I’m here to provide this.
Within my years of experience as a careers advisor I’ve market and proof read hundreds of application forms, I’ve seen some of the best application forms and some of the worst. It’s this knowledge that I want to pass on to you. There are so many pitfalls and faux pas that you can make when applying for a job and I’ll be teaching you how to not make them.
Not only will I be blogging about filling in application forms but I’ll be talking about writing your own CV or resume. These are muddy waters, there is a lot of bad information floating around on the internet out there and I aim to clear up some common misconceptions.
I’ll also be talking about other career related topics such as preparing for interviews, conducting telephone interviews, how to use social media to your advantage and finding the right job for you in general.
If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover or go over, then I’d be happy to hear your suggestions. Please feel free to contact me via my contact page and I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as possible. Who knows, I may be writing an article on the topic that you suggest.
I hope you enjoy my posts and find them both informative and entertaining.
